Welcome to The Black Horse Ski Club website.

The Club started in August 1988 and was originally for people working for Lloyds Bank, their families and friends. Our aim was to encourage experienced skiers, absolute beginners and those wanting to improve their skiing, to join us on the slopes. That remains a core aim today. Our success in achieving that has seen several members progress to be qualified ski or snowboard instructors and included among those are some of our current Club Officers. At least one of the Officers or Committee Members is usually on every trip we organise to provide help and guidance whilst in resort.

Since inception we have grown into a Club for all “snow” lovers whether it be on skis or a snowboard. We have very little connection to the bank now with most members having left or retired over the years. We cover the whole of the UK and we also have one or two members who live abroad.

Over the years we have established excellent working partnerships with hotels and guest houses in Austria and Switzerland, where we get special rates for our trips. Austria and Switzerland are our two specialist countries although we do look at other options each year.

We make booking a place on one our trips pretty straightforward and offer a degree of flexibility. As an example, you can book your own flights so that you have the ability to fly from where you want and to be able to get the best prices.

In Austria we have a good working relationship with an excellent ski school. They are able to cope with every level of skier and snowboarder from absolute beginner to those looking for race training. Excellent children’s facilities allow the ski school to take children from 3 years old and teach them to ski at first and then move on to snowboarding later. As a bonus, up to and including 5 year olds don’t need a lift pass to use the lifts, which is a good saving.

We are certainly not a “singles” club although we do get a lot of people join us because they are on their own for whatever reason. We have seen many people make new friends over the years, whilst enjoying the slopes and après ski.

Brief details of our current trips are available to anyone visiting the site but fuller information is only available in our members’ section. You can, of course, contact us for more details.

To join the Club is very straightforward. Just go to our Join Us page to apply online. The annual cost is £6 payable each November. You can also join our quarterly prize draw, our 100 Club. It costs £2 per month and we have cash prizes up to £50. We also have 2 annual prize draws of £550 which are offered as contributions towards the cost of one of our trips.

Please browse the open sections of our website and if you would like to join the Club then go to the New Members page and complete the Membership Application Form. Once approved, you will be given a membership number and will be able to get access to our members' only pages as well as join the 100 Club.
